THE footballing world has united to pay tribute to one of their own after a talented teenage footballer died suddenly.

Harley Barnbrook, aged 16, passed away after suffering from an asthma attack outside Merry Hill on February 15.

Meanwhile, a match between his former teams Dudley Town Juniors and Lye Town Juniors at the Dell Stadium on Monday saw a minute’s silence and balloon release held to commemorate the talented teen.

Meanwhile, a Just Giving page has been set up to help his family and has so far raised £4,675, smashing it’s £1,000 target.

The page, set up by Hayley Taylor, states: “Please help raise funds to support his family at this heartbreaking time. My aim is to take away the added pressure and allow them as much time off self-employment as needed, while they grieve or to spend the money as they see fit. Give as little or as much as you can- it all adds up. Thank you in advance.”

A statement from Dudley Town Junior’s released on behalf of Harley’s family said: “Harley was loved by many of his teammates and had an infectious personality. Harley lived for sports, especially football, where it was a family affair with dad, mom and often grandad coming along to support Harley and the team.

“Mom Kelly, Dad Dean and sister Sienna would like to pay thanks to all the staff during this extremely difficult time, the continuity of care received was truly touching.”

They also thanked staff at Russell Hall Hospital for their “excellent and compassionate care”.
