A FUNDRAISING appeal has raised more than £4k in memory of a popular Pensnett hairdressing salon owner who died while on holiday abroad.

Katie Capewell, owner of Rootz based in Tiled House Lane, passed away in Tenerife on February 22 due to a brain haemorrhage.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to raise £5,000 to give Katie "the send off she truly deserves".

Family, friends and colleagues of the mother-of-two had raised £4,491 by today (Tuesday March 8).

The fundraiser, set up by her friend and colleague Leanne Southall states: "After the devastating news of our queen Kate tragically passing away whilst living her best life on holiday with her family who thought the absolute world of her, we have decided to start a fundraiser to raise funds to give our queen the send off she deserves and to make sure her beautiful children live life to the max and help to give them the amazing experiences their mom worked so hard to help them achieve.

"Thank you all for your kind words and support at this heart breaking time

"Kate loved life and loved everyone, she would be so overwhelmed with the support that has already been shown in different ways."

She is survived by a daughter, aged eight, and a son, aged 12.

There will be a memorial fundraising raffle on March 27 from 2pm at Kingswinford Royal British Legion, in Summerhill.

A candlelight vigil in her memory was held at Rootz salon on Friday February 25 and was attended by hundreds of people (pictured below).
