Runners enjoy the return of the DK10K road race post Covid

More than 550 competitors took part in the event, organised by Dudley Kingswinford Running Club and sponsored by C & W Commercials Ltd, on Wednesday May at 7.15pm.

The course takes runners through undulating country roads, fully closed off to any traffic.

Kingswinford North and Wall Heath councillor Shaz Saleem officially started the mid-week race.

First to cross the line was Reece Ashfield of Western Tempo in 32 minutes 19 seconds.

The first lady home was Millie Smith of University of Birmingham in 39 minutes eight seconds.

All finishers received a DK10K drawstring bag, plus a medal, water, banana and snack bar.

A spokesperson from DK Running Club said: “It was great to have the DK10K back after two years postponement due to Covid.

“It was a huge success, and we would like to thank all of the runners who took part, as well as the marshals, helpers, spectators and C & W Commercials Ltd.”

Runners turn out in force for the popular mid-week road race starting in Wall Heath

The DK10K is a gold standard race and is run every first Wednesday in May.

It was started in 1986 by Dr Dick Blackburn.

The next event held by DK Running Club will be the popular Gavin Tipper 5K in June.
