THREE young Kidderminster boxers have returned to the ring to put the town on the map once again.

Trey King, 14, John Boy Hodgkins and Bailey Wilding, both 13, each fought their way to a medal finish at the England Boxing National Schoolboy Championships which took place at The Spiceball Leisure Centre in Banbury.

It was a weekend to celebrate for the trio, who have been representing Mikey's Boxing Gym since its beginning in 2015, as they took the nationwide tournament by storm.

Wilding, 65kg, became two-time national champion when he achieved gold with an impressive first-round stoppage in the final, The highlight-reel win and performance in previous rounds also earned Bailey Class B boxer of the tournament from England Talent coaches. This adds to last years impressive national final win where he also picked up a boxer of the tournament accolade.

John Boy Hodgkins, 56kg, was sure to give the travelling supporters something to cheer about, claiming gold and his first national championship title with an impressive win. His success follows a gruelling period of hard training, after narrowly missing out on the national title win in a very tight final last year. John also picked up bout of the tournament from England talent coaches.

King, under 50kg, began the championships with three strong wins leading to the national semi-final where he fell short on a 3-2 split decision in a very tight bout to the eventual winner of his category. The result means he was awarded a bronze medal to add to last year's national final win and his golden gloves.

Bailey and John Boy will now spend the next 12 months boxing for their country on the England Boxing Schools academy. The pair may be called to into action as soon as mid-June for the Schoolboy Tri-Nations tournament in Scotland, then potential European championship action later this year.

Michael Mikolajczyk, owner and head coach at Mikey's Boxing Gym, said: “We are all so proud of what these three young boxers are achieving, they work so hard everyday to get where they are and putting Kidderminster boxing on the map. They are a credit to their families, friends and our amazing coaching team who volunteer to help all our boxers in the gym and travel all over the country with them."
