A LOWER Gornal takeaway has been handed a new food hygiene rating.

Fans Chinese Takeaway on Redhall Road was given a one-out-of-five score after an assessment on May 12, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

The FSA website states that at the time of the inspection improvement was necessary in the hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

It states the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene was generally satisfactory.

It also states that major improvement was necessary in the management of food safety - the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.

The FSA rates businesses from zero to five so that customers can make more informed choices about where to buy and eat food.

A rating of five means hygiene standards are very good, four means hygiene standards are good, three means hygiene standards are generally satisfactory, two means some improvement is necessary, a rating of one means major improvement is necessary and a rating of zero means urgent improvement is required.

People can see the results of all food hygiene inspections at eateries across the Dudley borough via Dudley Council’s website or on the national ratings.food.gov.uk website.
