BLACK Country singer songwriter Jess Silk has told of her excitement ahead of taking to the stage at Glastonbury with Billy Bragg.

Jess, from Kingswinford, has landed a slot to perform on the Left Field stage at the legendary music festival on Saturday June 25.

The 26-year-old graphic designer, a regular performer at Katie Fitzgerald’s in Stourbridge, is expected to perform around four songs during an hour-and-a-half long set featuring other musicians and critically acclaimed British singer songwriter and activist Billy Bragg.

Speaking ahead of her debut performance (and her debut trip to Glastonbury), she said: “It’s always been on my bucket list, I’ve never attended before.”

She told how she “absolutely jumped at the chance” to play at the mother of all summer music festivals, held in Somerset, after being approached by Bragg, who wrote the 1980s track New England, to be part of his radical round-up set.

Jess, who plans to perform numbers from her new album Blitz Spirit, will be playing alongside Seb Lowe, described as a thoughtful, political wordsmith, and Sunderland based newcomer Tom A Smith.
