A DUDLEY curry house has won the best restaurant award at the 2022 British Bengal Curry Awards.

Chutney Indian restaurant, in Castle Street, Coseley, was named winner of the coveted award at a ceremony at The Skylark Hotel In Southend Upon Sea on Monday June 27.

Owner Jubel Ahmed, known as Jubz, was over the moon at the win and he said: “It’s our first award.”

He thanked loyal customers for their continuing support since the pandemic when the eaterie ramped up its takeaway service and sent free meals to healthcare staff in care homes and hospitals when the Covid-19 crisis hit in 2020.

He said: “We were extremely busy during the pandemic and we’re doing really well now. We have a huge number of regulars who have always been supportive.”

The restaurant has a five out of five customer review rating on Facebook and four-and-a-half stars out of five on Google.

Another Black Country business walked away with the other top awards.

Penn Balti won the takeaway of the year award with owner Awlad Hussain, pictured below, named chef of the year.
