Dudley's Darren McDermott will have no fears about having to enter the lion's den to win the British middleweight title after it was announced he will have to take on the champion in his own back-yard.

McDermott will face Wayne Elcock at the Aston Events Centre, Birmingham, on April 25 Birmingham.

"Macca" is unphased by the prospect of having to travel to Birmingham as he will take an army of fans with him from Dudley.

Unbeaten McDermott said: "I can't wait for the fight.

"Wayne may be going into the fight as the champion but he lost his last fight against the IBF world champion Arthur Abraham and we will have to see how that affects him.

"I respect Wayne as the champion but I will be testing him.

"I want to make sure that this fight is just another stepping stone for me.

"I am sure that there will be lots of coaches full of my fans making the journey to Birmingham."

Elcock, who outpointed Howard Eastman to win the British title last September, is relishing the chance to make his first defence in front of his own fans.

"Fighting in front of my home crowd is good for me," said Elcock.

"But I know Darren will have a big following so it should make for a fantastic fight."

Meanwhile, next Thursday, Brierley Hill's Martin Gordon will make a welcome return to action.

Gordon will face Tamworth's Matt Cearwright in a four-round welterweight encounter at Wolverhampton Civic Hall with both fighters in search of their first professional win.

The First Team Promotions bill will also feature unbeaten Stourbridge lightweight prospect Scott Evans as he takes on veteran puncher Karl Taylor.

Tickets are available by calling PJ Rowson on 07976283157 or the Civic Hall box office on 08703207000.
