A LONG-running Dudley business has donated £1,000 to two good causes for Christmas.

Midtherm which has been based in Dudley for over half a century, decided to donate the funds to give something back to the community during tough times.

Teaming up with councillor Keiran Casey and community campaigner Karl Denning, it was decided to split the donation, with £500 donated to the Friends of Wrens Nest Nature Reserve and £500 to Dudley Food Cycle at St Francis Church on Laurel Road.

The Friends of Wrens Nest Nature Reserve work tirelessly to look after the beauty spot, and Dudley Food Cycle runs a weekly food club every Tuesday to provide a warm meal to residents who need it and a warm space and a chance to chat.

Shard-e Andrews, owner of Midtherm Ltd, said: “As a local company based in Dudley for many years, we are always looking at how we can give back to the community.

“People and organisations like these ensure things like the nature reserve are preserved for future generations, and that local residents are getting the help and support they need during these difficult times, so we’re really happy to be able to support them with these donations.”

Paul Floyd, of the Friends of Wrens Nest Nature Reserve, said: “The Friends are extremely grateful to receive this generous donation from Midtherm. The money raised will be used to provide equipment for the new wardens' base/visitor facility.” FoodCycle West Midlands regional manager Jody Beswick said: ”Without support from the community, we wouldn’t be able to provide a warm space and tasty three course meal every week to those who need it across the region.”

Castle and Priory Ward councillor Keiran Casey said: "It’s fantastic that Midtherm have given these donations to support local good causes, it will make a massive difference to both groups.”
