A WOMAN has received 'minor injuries' after a plane crash at Halfpenny Green Airport.

Staffordshire Fire Service has confirmed a woman, in her 20s, who was piloting the plane has sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Firefighters were called to the airport on Crab Lane, Bobbington just before 1:05 pm today (Friday, December 9) following reports of a light aircraft crash.

The on-site airport fire crew extinguished the fire coming from the plane using foam.

The fire service confirmed the pilot was the sole occupant on board.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport, Bobbington at 1.11 pm.

"Two paramedic officers and an ambulance attended the scene to find a light aircraft which had reportedly encountered an issue whilst landing.

"The single occupant, a woman, was out of the aircraft and upon assessment was found to have sustained minor injuries and didn’t require further hospital treatment.

"She was discharged on scene."

An amateur photographer who captured the moment the plane hit the ground said he heard a ‘big bang’ and it was ‘quite startling'.

The incident has been left with The Air Accident Investigation Board.
