The three women, aged 51, 53, and 37 were among six women arrested in total after the boy died at Fairytales Day Nursery in Bourne Street on December 9 last year.

A criminal investigation was launched by West Midlands Police following an inspection by Ofsted after the boy’s death.

The women, aged 51, 53 and 37, were arrested on Wednesday, January 4 - two were arrested on suspicion of corporate manslaughter and one on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

They have now been bailed by police.

Three other women – aged 20, 23 and 50 – were arrested on December 16 on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter and were previously released on bail with conditions.

The police force said the boy's family is being supported by specially trained officers.

A post mortem has taken place but further tests will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
