A PLANE has crashed into a road in Kingswinford today with the public advised to avoid the area.

The light aircraft crashed into the Kidderminster Road A449 at 2:20pm today (Saturday March 4), police said.

The pilot escaped the wreckage with minor injuries and no one else was involved, according to officers.

The incident appears to have happened on Doctors Lane.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.

Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft flying very low.

Doctors Lane was still closed at 16.30pm but the A449 is reportedly now open to traffic.

Police are, however, urging people to avoid the area.

South Staffordshire Police said on twitter: "We have responded to a light aircraft colliding with the Kidderminster Road A449 in Kingswinford at 2:20pm.

"The pilot escaped with minor injuries.

"Officers have closed part of the road whilst the Civil Aviation Authority lead the investigation, so please avoid the area."

A witness said on social media: "My family and I were playing football golf, and saw this plane, it was so low, really shaky and kept dipping up and down!

"I had a feeling something wasn’t quite right!

"Glad everyone involved is okay."

Another said: "Saw the plane fly overhead whilst walking my dog on the triangle.

"It was so low and at such a steep angle that there was simply no way it was going to land as planned.

"Really glad everyone involved is now safe."
