A DUDLEY man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a collision on Bridgnorth Road in Wombourne.

The 22-year-old was the driver of a Volkswagen Golf which was in collision with a Ford Maverick 4x4 at around 8.15pm on June 17.

Four ambulances, the Cosford County Air Ambulance and a BASICS Emergency Doctor from the West Midlands Care Team were alerted to the scene by 999 calls.

An ambulance spokesman said they had arrived at the scene to find the Ford sitting at an angle on the bonnet of the Golf.

He added: "There were a man and woman inside the Golf, and the man remained trapped for over an hour while fire and rescue staff worked to free him.

"He had suffered a fractured left leg and had potentially serious internal injuries."

The man was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board before being airlifted to the trauma centre at Selly Oak Hospital.

The female passenger of the Golf and the male Ford driver suffered only minor injuries.

Both were immobilised and conveyed to Russell's Hall Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
