A POORLY cat dragged himself home in Netherton after being caught in a snare and shot by an air rifle - with pet rescues appealing for help to fund his life-saving treatment.

Loki returned to his home after five days missing, barely able to walk.

It was initially thought the two-year-old moggie had been hit by a car, but tests shockingly revealed the damage to his leg has been caused by a snare trap - and uncovered a pellet from an air rifle near his spine.

Sadly his owners couldn't afford the vets bills, which stand at £3.1k and had to surrender Loki to Halesowen-based Peppers Pet Rescue and Quinton-based Petsearch Rescue, who have agreed to take him on as a joint case.

They are appealing for donations to help save Loki's life and give him a happy ever after.

Sadie Townsend of Petsearch said: "Loki's leg damage is caused by being held in a snare trap - there is evidence of wounds from the teeth of the trap on top of his foot.

"Shockingly the only explanation for this is that he was trapped in a snare and then used for target practice.

"We really have no words to say how upset we all are by this.

"Poor Loki needs so much help - his estimated vets bill is £3,100, we (ourselves and Peppers) haven’t got those sorts of funds.

"Please help us to help Loki, he is only two-years-old and no animal deserves to have gone through this - he needs his happy ever after.

"This awful cruelty happened in DY2-9 area so please be aware."

The two rescues took on Loki as a joint case as they are already in debt.

Sophie Pepper of Pepper's Pet Rescue said: "We are already in loads of debt, but the owner sent me a video of him dragging his back leg and we just couldn’t leave him."
