MERRY Hill bosses say they are trying to seek a replacement service following the closure of the Post Office in the shopping centre.

The Merry Hill Centre Post Office, located in unit U76A, closed two weeks ago after an intended sale of the business fell through.

Bosses at Merry Hill have spoken of their disappointment at the closure and have meanwhile compiled a list of alternative services available in the shopping centre.

A spokesperson for the Post Office said of the closure: “The postmaster for Merry Hill resigned as a planned sale of the business fell through. The postmaster decided not to renew the lease and the branch closed on May 13.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the closure. “Alternative branches in the area include Brierly Hill and Hill Street, which are both 0.8 miles away.”

The Post Office said its next nearest branches are located at 54 High Street, Brierley Hill, and Hill Street, Brierley Hill.

Jonathan Poole, centre manager at Merry Hill, said: “We are saddened at the closure of the Post Office at Merry Hill and across the country.

“We understand the importance of this service for our community and we are actively seeking a replacement service for the centre. “There are also alternative services available within the centre for postage, driving, travel and financial services.”

People can buy stamps at various stores including Ryman, Card Factory and Asda.

Posting facilities and Post Boxes are available in-store at Asda, at the bus station, at the P3 car park near the main entrance and at the embarkment near Primark.

Foreign currency, travel insurance and travel money card services are provided by M&S at its bureau within Mens/Kids wear, and at the two Eurochange bureaus in the centre on the upper mall near the M&S Foodhall and on the lower mall opposite Asda.

Money transfers are available at Ryman’s through Western Union's 'Money In Minutes' service.

Current account servicing can be handled at various bank branches including NatWest, Halifax, TSB, Coventry and Nationwide.
