COMMUNITY heroes joined forces to help bring smiles to children in hospital this Christmas by donating more than 200 toys.

Groups led by community champion Shaz Saleem delivered gifts to staff and youngsters on the children's ward at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley on Tuesday December 19.

The Saleem Foundation, Kingswinford Community Group, Wall Heath Kuppa Club, Kingswinford Christian Centre, Royal British Legion, TSF Youth Club, Wall Heath in Bloom, Kingswinford & Wall Heath Litter Pick Club, Kingswinford Foodbank and the One Community team all took part in the toy drive to help spread cheer this festive season.

Community heroes like former Mayor and Mayoress Steve and Jayne Waltho, Cassie Gray, Maya Garbett, Brian Bassingthwaighte, Gail Bradley and Adam Waldron all got involved.

One Community leader Shaz said: “Christmas is one festival that unites everyone, and at this time it’s so important we are there for one another, no one has seen tomorrow so it’s so important we create priceless memories and enjoy today. My grandad was very passionate in supporting youngsters and it’s that legacy I wish to continue.”

He set up the Saleem Foundation, a registered charity, in memory of his late grandfather.

Steve Waltho MBE, chairman of the foundation, said: “We work very hard all year round to unite and support local community. We are grateful for the NHS staff who work extremely hard all year around.”
