A Kingswinford resident has been crowned a 'musical mastermind champion' after winning a Radio 4 quiz.

Annie Hodkinson, President of the Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir, outshone her competitors to claim victory in the 37th Counterpoint music quiz, hosted by Paul Gambaccini.

Although she didn't initially believe she would progress past the first stage, Ms Hodkinson persevered to secure the title, triumphing over two other contestants to win the silver salver trophy.

The competitors battle against one another for three rounds of musical mastermind-type questions.

She led from the very beginning, quizzing her way to a dream win by a three point margin.

Ms Hodkinson's achievement was celebrated at a rehearsal at Stream Road Methodist Church in Kingswinford.

The choir's chairman, Ken Crane, presented her with a bouquet of flowers and the silver salver trophy.

Mr Crane said: "We are immensely proud of Annie for this wonderful achievement.

"She is a great ambassador for our choir.

"She is so supportive of everything we do and we are lucky to have her as our Honorary President."

The choir is currently seeking new members.

Rehearsals take place at the church Hall in Kingswinford every Monday evening at 7.30pm.

The choir's upcoming concert will take place at Springdale Methodist Church on Friday, April 19, with proceeds going to Compton Hospice and Sponsored Breaks.
