AN ATTACKER who caused actual bodily harm in an assault in Herefordshire has been jailed after failing to turn up for probation appointments.

David Bernard Styles admitted one count of failing to comply with the requirements of a community order when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford in March.

The court heard from the probation service that Styles, who was represented at the hearing by defence solicitor Marilena Di Vitantonio, had been made subject to a community order by magistrates in Hereford on December 19.

The order had been imposed after he was convicted of one count of assaulting a person, causing them actual bodily harm and one count of causing criminal damage to the wing mirror and bodywork of a Volkswagen Passat belonging to the same victim along with another person.

But, the court heard, the 40-year-old had failed to comply with initial probation appointments on December 21 and 28 and had failed to provide the required evidence to reasonably excuse his absences.

Magistrates said Styles had shown a "wilful and persistent" failure to comply with the requirements of a community order.

The community order was revoked and Styles, of Conningsby Street, Hereford, was jailed for 16 weeks.
