AN ALDI store in Dudley was filled with smoke today (Tuesday July 16).
Workmen were testing a security system which releases smoke when there's a break-in at the discount supermarket on Priory Road, when it went off accidentally.
Video taken by Paul Reynolds and shared on the Gornal Watch & Info Facebook page shows clouds of smoke filling the store earlier this afternoon.
Firefighters from Dudley Fire Station just happened to be at the scene at the time, as they were picking up supplies.
Watch commander Phil Deeley said: "Workmen were testing the SmokeCloak when it activated.
"It just went off.
"They go off when there's an attempted break-in - they have them at petrol stations.
"The store wasn't evacuated as it didn't deploy fully - just a little bit."
SmokeCloak is a security fog which is designed to hide valuables quickly when there's a break-in, so that intruders leave empty-handed.
A spokesperson for Aldi said an alarm system was set off accidentally during routine maintenance.
They said the smoke was released as part of the security system and cleared in about 10 minutes.
They said the store was open as normal.
