CHILDREN at a Lower Gornal school have buried a time capsule to mark the 40th anniversary of the school.

Pupils from The Straits Primary School all chipped in to fill the time capsule with souvenirs from the present day, including pictures, poems and writing.

The capsule was then buried at the end of term in school grounds by head boy and head girl Jack Knowles and Olivia Warby, and deputy head boy and girl Ben Whitehouse and Rachel Harcourt, all from year 6.

Another time capsule was laid 15 years ago to mark the school’s 25th anniversary - however nobody can quite remember where it was buried.

Headteacher Adrian Slack said they had been sure to make a map this time around.

He added: “The children filled the capsule with many happy memories of the school and enjoyed imagining who might dig it up in the future.”
