POLICE Officers have begun rewarding children from Wren’s Nest Primary School for their hard work and good behaviour.

PC Paul Davies, from Wren’s Nest neighbourhood policing team, has been working closely with staff to set up the DY1 Good Citizen awards.

The accolade will be presented to a child each month who has not only worked hard and behaved well in school, but who has also shown care and consideration to the community outside school hours.

The first child to receive the award was five-year old Jamie Holmes, who was nominated by his mum and teacher, Sarah Shaw.

Both commented on how Jamie was always thoughtful and caring. Along with the DY1 Good Citizen Award badge, Jamie was also presented with a certificate and prize.

Speaking about the new awards, PC Davies, who is a former pupil of the Foxglove Road school said:” I feel it is important for both the police and teaching staff to recognise and reward exceptional behaviour.”

He added: “The awards will not be given lightly and will have to be really earned. We also hope to expand the scheme to other schools in the future.”

Wren’s Nest Deputy Head Teacher, Kay Mason said: “We are privileged to be the first school in Dudley to have such outstanding pupils to receive this award.

Adding: “We love having PC Davies involved in school life and the children and their parents appreciate it too.”
