DUDLEY councillors have called on the council to find a new home for Dudley Town Football Club, in a bid to get it relocated back into the town.

Currently the team are based at the Dell Stadium in Pensnett , but speaking at Central Dudley Area Committee, councillors expressed their desire to find a permanent base for the team in its home town.

But the council have reported that at the current time, it is not looking for a new ground to build a sports village, claiming the Dell meets all the requirements needed by the football club and there is no other suitable suits available.

However Castle and Priory councillor Ken Finch said land near Mons Hill, located in his ward, would be suitable for the club and should be considered by the council.

He said:” There is a massive site at Mons Hill, where people already play football on.

“The club are asking us to find them a site and they will do the rest.”

He added: “This has been going on for a good many years. I’m proud of living in Dudley, but I am not proud of this council in trying to establish a football ground for this town. This council needs to be more forthright in finding a site.”

Cllr Finch also told the meeting, how ten years ago, when he was Mayor, he invited the team to the council house to discuss plans for a new stadium.

He said:” I feel I have failed. I spoke to the team ten years ago and we still haven’t got a sports arena. We need to start seriously thinking about it.”
