MORE than 60 children and a Dudley Wood councillor say they are fed up of waiting for the council to take up its promise of building a BMX track in the area.

Cllr Bryan Cotterill said the promise of a new BMX track has been going on for “well over 12 months” and now they are all “getting sick and tired of waiting”.

Cllr Cotterill said Dudley Council were to upgrade the area on the Black Horse site off Dudley Wood Road into a state-of-the-art facility for the youngsters to use.

The work should have been completed by January, but as of yet nothing has been done.

He said: “The children were consulted on the design of the new BMX area over 12 months ago, they were all excited but nothing has happened and we haven’t heard anything since.”

Cllr Cotterill added: “I have raised the issue at area committee after area committee but still nothing. There is nothing for the children in the area - it has very few leisure facilities as it is. They keep coming to me to ask when it is going to start.

“To me this is local government at its worst.”

But council officials said final details were being put in place for work to start on the BMX track imminently.

A Dudley Council spokesman said: “We are putting the final details of the scheme together and hope to be in a position to start work in the next two months.”

However a sceptical Cllr Cotterill said he was delighted to hear the news, but would be even more delighted when he saw work actually start.

He said: “I will pencil the date in my diary and we will see what actually happens in two months.”
