DUDLEY Council is continuing to let down the youngsters of Dudley Wood after once again failing to start work on a BMX track, claims the ward councillor.

Councillor Bryan Cotterill said discussions and promises about the new track set for the Black Horse Site, off Dudley Wood Road, had been batted around for more than 12 months – but still nothing has happened.

The work to turn the current facility into a state-of-the-art track should have been finished in January.

And in February, the council promised work would start in the next two months, much to the delight of the youngsters who have campaigned for a new track for many months.

But speaking at the time, a sceptical Mr Cotterill said he would pencil the date in his diary and see what actually transpired.

Now, eight weeks later, the fight is back on after the council still “haven’t done a tap”.

Mr Cotterill said: “The council is still letting the children down. I am running out of things to say to these youngsters when they keep asking me when it will be started.”

He added:“Two months ago, I said I would only believe it when I saw it. I knew they wouldn’t have started work on it.

“I am very disappointed. It is appalling – these youngsters will be parents by the time this track is built and their children will be wanting to use it themselves.”

But council officials said work on the new facility was still on track and is set to start within a few weeks.

A council spokesman said:“The work will start in the near future and it is anticipated it will be completed on schedule by the middle of May.”

Mr Cotterill said: “I do believe in miracles - but we shall see with this one.”
