MARCHING bands will be drumming up support for Armed Forces Day in Dudley during a top competition.

The Traditional Youth Marching Band Championships sees bands from across the country competing at Himley Hall on Sunday June 28, from 11am.

The bands will later perform in Dudley Council’s Armed Forces Day celebrations at the historic hall and they will lead the beating of the retreat as the finale to the day’s celebrations, which begin at 2.30pm.

Councillor Pat Martin, Mayor of Dudley, said: “There’s lots going on to mark Armed Forces Day with exhibitions, demonstrations and music. I hope people will come to Himley and make a day of it.”

The day, which is open to all ex-servicemen and current armed forces members living in Dudley borough, will include a Mercian Military Band concert, displays by Dudley Territorial Army, a World War two exhibition, a display of military vehicles and the chance to enjoy a picnic on the lawns of the hall. The bands will also perform a number of hymns as the flags are lowered at the end of the day’s event.
