GORNAL residents flocked to the opening of the new Sainsbury's store which opened its doors this morning.

The new store in Louise Street, which was the former Somerfield store now also boasts a new bakery, fresh floral arrangements and an ATM.

It was opened at 9am this morning by long-serving assistant Celia Day who cut the ribbon to officially open the supermarket.

And youngsters from nearby Red Hall primary school also joined in with the opening ceremony.

Store manager, Eddie Gardner said: “We’re proud of our new store but the best part of opening is getting to know the local community. It’s been great meeting new people and we’re looking forward to making a positive difference. We’ve already started this process by working with Red Hall Primary and it’s great that kids from the school livened up us oldies at the opening!”

The first customer in the store was also presented with a bouquet of flowers from the manager.
