KINDHEARTED children at Brockmoor Primary School turned heroes for the day as they raised more than £500 for children less fortunate than themselves.

The youngsters at the Belle Isle school spent a whole week learning all about Children in Need and what exactly money raised by the national appeal goes towards through special assemblies and lessons.

But the children and staff also had fun along the way, by holding a variety of fundraising events to raise funds for the appeal.

Not only did the youngsters raise money by running a guess the celebrity competition - paying 50p to guess the celebrity from their baby photos, but they were also challenged to raise funds in a pocket money challenge.

Every child was challenged to go home and do jobs around the house during the week such as washing up and cleaning the car and get paid to do it.

The week long fundraising attempt was rounded with all staff and pupils paying £1 to dress up as their heroes - with doctors, nurses, police and Pudsey Bear all turning up for school on Friday.

Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Johnson, said: “By Friday we had raised £550, but we have still got money coming in which is really great.

“We had a really lovely day, everyone made an effort to dress up and we were quite amazed to raise that much money.”
