DUDLEY Kingswinford RFC joint head coach Mark Lockley has warned his side against complacency as they aim to follow up derby glory with a win at Solihull this Saturday.

In-form DK recorded their third league win on the bounce with a 34-8 win over rivals Old Halesonians at Heathbrook last weekend.

Lockley now takes his side to face Midlands One West whipping boys Solihull (kick-off 2.15pm), who have yet to pick up a point this term, with the coach adament his players cannot afford to take their foot off the gas.

He said: “There is no room for complacency, they are at home so we have to make sure we take care of business.

“Obviously, we would be disappointed to not go there and win and we are more than capable of doing so.

“But we can’t take things for granted.”

DK were quick to stamp their authority on the derby clash, racing into a 14-0 lead inside eight minutes thanks to two tries from James Jefferson.

The visitors never fully recovered and though a Luke Smith score reduced the deficit, a Stefan Shillingford try on the stroke of half-time saw the home side lead 19-9 at the break.

Late scores from Andy McEwan and Ed Parry sealed the win, which moved DK up to third in the table.

Lockley added: “We wanted to play the game at pace and I thought we dictated that.

“The most pleasing aspect was the defensive effort, they never really looked like scoring and it felt like we were always in control.

“If you look at the second half stats I imagine it would show that 90 per cent of the game was played in their half of the pitch.

“I don’t think they ever hurt us from deep.”

Lockley also praised the efforts of scrum half Robbie Jones, who played a crucial role in two of the first half tries.

He said: “Robbie had a very good game, he is a very capable player.

“I thought Andy McEwan was outstanding as well, we certainly stopped them at the game line and took the wind out of them.”

DK have no new injury concerns ahead of the tip to Solihull, though Mike Jones is set to go travelling.
