A POLICE Community Support Officer has put steps in place to help protect Sedgley residents.

PCSO Richard Plumb stopped off at a over 50s line dancing club at Ladies Walk Community Centre, where he handed out free personal safety alarms to club members.

The Sedgley and Gornal neighbourhood policing team applied to get £500 from council funds to purchase 250 alarms, which can be attached to handbags, purses or can hang round people’s necks.

Officers have been busy distributing them out to elderly residents in the area - and when Richard popped into the line dancing club, he just couldn’t resist joining in.

PCSO Plumb said: “I gave a talk to them a few months back which was an ideal opportunity to give them crime prevention advice - but we were delighted to get funding for the alarms and go back and visit them.

“I did look at bit of a fool line dancing to be honest, but I did manage to pick up the steps in the end.”

Further alarms will be given to residents living in Sheltered Housing as well as members of Gornal Derby and Joan club.

Richard added: “A lot of funding gets spent on young people, but the majority of residents living in Sedgley and Gornal are elderly, so it is great to be able to help them out.”
