Dudley Kingswinford posted Midlands 1 West’s highest score this season, defeating Cheltenham North 88-0, scoring an incredible 14 tries in the process.

Bottom of the league North, travelled to Kingswinford with a squad down to its bare bones, knowing that they would be up against a Dudley squad with a lot of pent up energy having not played for 21 days.

The scoring started early when after five minutes prop Stefan Thorp drove over following a lineout five metres out, Nick Adams duly converted the try. A superb break from 40 metres out by Man of the Match Jordan Brookes eventually led to centre Tom Weaver scoring the second try, touching down underneath the posts for another converted try.

Dudley were not left to wait much longer when lock Ed Parry crashed over for their third converted try, with only a quarter of an hour played.

Two minutes later Parry scored again making it 26-0. Brookes heaped further woe on to the visiting side on 20 minutes with a try after a dazzling break for one more converted try.

Kingswinford were made to wait a little while longer for their next score but Andy McEwen gave them their sixth and seventh tries just before the half hour mark, with Adams hitting the post on one of his conversion attempts.

North offered little resistance throughout the match but put DK under pressure just before the end of the first half, only to come away from a strong position with nothing to show. The rally was short-lived however with DK full-back James Jefferson running in from 45 metres for another converted try just before the end of the first half, giving Dudley a 52-0 lead.

The second half didn’t start as quickly as the first, with North keeping out DK until the 52nd minute, before a break down the blindside by Brookes saw him score in the corner for another unconverted try.

Three minutes later Brookes got his hat-trick after showing good control to hack the ball over the line following a weighted chip by Bown that had caught the North defence on the back foot. Adams once again stepped up to convert.

Jak Davies eventually got his name on the scoresheet when he raced over the line following a crossfield move that left North short of cover on the wing.

Winger Adams finally got the try his kicking had deserved on 68 minutes after the DK attack once again exposed North out on the flanks.

With a lot of the scoring now coming from the backs, the forwards decided to up the ante with Thorpe adding another try to his tally and hooker Dan Shakespeare scoring the final try of the game. Adams once again converted both efforts to leave the final score standing at 88-0.

Dudley Kingswinford’s next match is away at Whitchurch this Saturday.
