DUDLEY Kingswinford RFC will be looking for more revenge as well as derby glory when they host Walsall this Saturday (kick-off 2pm).

The Heathbrook outfit were dealt a painful 22-17 defeat by their rivals in September, one of several disappointing early season results which helped scupper their promotion hopes.

DK go into the game in great form after last weekend’s 46-14 dismantling of Whitchurch, another side who had beaten them earlier in the campaign.

Joint head coach Mark Lockley said he was hoping for more of the same against Walsall.

He said: “We will obviously hope to get the right result at home.

“We want to put things right from earlier in the season which really hurt us, though I expect it will be a full-bloodied local derby.

“The performance at Whitchurch was a top class display and we hope to replicate that against Walsall.”

DK ran in eight tries against third placed Whitchurch, who had been in fine form themselves after winning five of their previous six fixtures.

Dominating from the opening whistle, DK controlled possession and territory but had to wait until the second half before the points began to flow.

Two tries from Gareth Bown bookended the display, while there was also a brace for man-of-the-match Stefan Thorp.

The result kept DK fifth in the Midlands One West standings, four points behind second placed Bournville who have a game in hand.

While Lockley concedes his side will rely on others making mistakes to get back into the promotion race, he is admament the players will continue fighting.

He said: “We have slipped up and it is out of our hands, all we can concentrate on is the games coming up and winning those.

“A few experienced players have returned from injury at the right time and that has helped us.”
