HIMLEY CC skipper Greg Wright has called on his side to bounce back after a miserable weekend.

The Stourbridge Road outfit suffered their first league defeat of the season with an eight wicket loss at Wellington on Saturday, before being unceremoniously dumped out of the National Knockout competition at Lullington Park on Sunday.

And the captain has called for a stark improvement when they host Moseley this Saturday (noon start).

Wright said: “We have got to pick ourselves up for Saturday and take the chance to bounce back.

“Some of the players need to make sure they get their own games in order.

“We have been here before, thankfully not too many times and we have got to hit back and produce a positive performance.”

After losing the toss at Wellington Himley struggled to gain momentum on a tricky wicket, losing openers TP Singh and Chris Tranter cheaply.

But from 63-5, Harshad Patel (62 not out) helped lead a revival along with Shafiq Ahmed (34 not out) which saw the visitors to 177-6 from their 55 overs.

However, Himley struggled with the ball and a devastating 95 from Gerry Strydom saw the hosts reach the total in just 41.4 overs.

Wright added: “It was very difficult early on. We didn’t bat particularly badly but the ball was going everywhere.

“We managed to post a decent total and we were quite positive, while they were downbeat.

“We really fancied our chances but we were really lax with the ball. We just weren’t up for it really.”

On Sunday Himley bowled out Staffordshire side Lullington for 202 but were then skittled themselves for just 98.
