HIMLEY CC will see their Birmingham Premier League title credentials tested on Saturday when they host Shrewsbury.

Cricketing connoisseurs could do worse than take a trip to Stourbridge Road where the fifth placed hosts will look to overturn the second placed visiting outfit.

Himley head into the game full of confidence after picking up valuable points over the Bank Holiday and skipper Greg Wright is under no illusions as to the test Shrewsbury will pose.

He said: “It’s going to be a really tough one.

“They are a quality side and have proved it with their performances in the National competition.

“I still don’t think we have quite hit top form but we are in a better position than previous years.”

Himley collected five welcome bonus points from their draw with Barnt Green on Saturday, before tasting derby glory with a six wicket win at Wolverhampton on Monday.

Those results were sandwiched either side of a 54 run victory in the Staffordshire Cup against Audley on Sunday.

Wright was philosophical over the draw with Barnt Green, after rain brought an end to the game with the visitors on 64-8, chasing Himley’s 164-8.

He said: “It was a great game and you have to give credit to both sides.

“On another day we might have got the two wickets but we were luckier than a lot of other sides who saw their games called off.”

Monday’s derby win featured a scintillating 101 from TP Singh, the Indian all rounder having confirmed his return to form with the bat the previous day against Audley by smashing 96 from just 73 balls.

Wright added: “TP’s ability was never really in doubt.

“He cares a lot about the club and his own performances, it was great to see him back on the up.

“He is the best batsman in the league, full stop. It was only a matter of time before he hit form.”
