Woodsetton and Gornal residents are being warned of green fingered thieves targeting the area.

Police were called to two addresses on Sedgley Road on July 11 who reported thefts of garden items.

A hanging basket was taken from one address, while a further hanging basket and two large plant pots was taken from another. All were filled with plants.

The previous day (July 10), police attended an address in Hockley Road, where two hanging baskets had been taken from the front of the house, some time between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.

Officers were also called to a further house in Jockey Fields, Upper Gornal, where a resident had woken to discover a water feature had been dismantled and left at the side of his house. It is thought it may have been left for a thief to return and collect it later.

PCSO Tarral Francis, of the Upper Gornal and Woodsetton neighbourhood policing team, said: "Although we have only had four thefts reported, we are aware that there have been more. We are urging residents to keep a look out for any suspicious activity and report it to us immediately.

“We would advise residents to secure baskets and pots with chains wherever possible, if they are visible from road.”

Anyone with information should contact the policing team on 0345 113 5000 extension 7908 6601.
