DARREN Goodall believes the return of some old faces and the arrival of some new ones could put Lye Town’s season back on track.

The Stourbridge Road side have hit something of a rut in recent weeks after their strong start to the campaign was derailed by an injury crisis.

But joint boss Goodall revealed several players, including defender Liam Newell and Adam Bastable, are on the verge of returns while he has also added former Stourbridge man Gavin Winsper to the squad.

He said: “Things are starting to look a lot rosier, we have players coming back and a few new faces have come in to freshen things up.

“Hopefully we will be able to name a more consistent back four from now on as I think that’s been one of the reasons for us conceding so many goals.

“We will look to go on a run in the league.

“At the moment we have played more games than anyone else so I would expect us to drop a few places initially when everyone else catches up.”

Goodall said his team were also targeting a decent cup run, kicking off last night when they faced Cadbury Athletic in the Midland Floodlit Cup, ahead of this Saturday’s tricky trip to Bustleholme.

Meanwhile he was happy with the battling qualities on display last Saturday as Town fought back from two goals down in the final 15 minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw at Shawbury United, thanks to goals from Damian Whitcombe and Ash Greenaway.

He added: “They had two shots in the first half and scored two goals, in the second half we had chances but it was about keeping them out too.

“As soon as we got our first goal I knew we would get another and we could have won it at the end.

“We missed two one-on-one chances and it was just not to be.”
