Dudley Council is calling on borough drivers with 4x4s to volunteer to help home carers during the current cold snap.

With the recent snow, Dudley Council is asking anyone with a 4x4 vehicle to put their names down to volunteer to help the borough’s home carers continue to deliver much-needed services to people in the most affected parts of the borough.

Although home carers are currently managing to get to the service users they need to by foot or from main roads, with more snow on the way it is likely to make some areas even more difficult to access.

Many services will no doubt have family members calling in on them during this time but the more volunteers the council has in readiness the better prepared it will be.

Councillor Lesley Faulkner, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: “This really is a call to the good nature of the borough’s people during the festive season to give us a helping hand during this latest cold snap.

“Our home carers really are doing an outstanding job in getting to many of our services users by foot but it’s taking longer than normal to get to people.

“If people with 4x4s were able to volunteer and help us to access the most difficult parts of the borough, we would be very grateful as it would allow our service to continue to run as fully as possible despite the inclement weather.”

People can volunteer by calling 01384 813534 or the out of hours number on 01384 815006.
