PARKING around Russells Hall Hospital is set to be overhauled in a bid to tackle the problems for residents who are blighted by overspill motorists.

Following further concerns about parking congestion in surrounding streets, Dudley Council has rejected calls for a resident parking permit scheme, and is looking instead at restricting access in a number of roads.

Public consultation is open until March 21, with residents urged to have their view about the traffic plans, which include restricting access to Pearce Close, Dereton Close, Abbotsford Drive and Elgar Crescent.

Following a meeting of the Russells Hall Traffic working group, the council is planning to introduce restricted waiting times along sections of Middlepark Road, The Oval, Ashenhurst Road, and Kingswinford Road, Monday to Friday, 10am-11am and 2pm- 3pm.

Meanwhile, no waiting at any time restrictions are proposed for Kingswinford Road, while Tennyson Street, Milton Street and Byron Street will have permanent double yellow lines.

A limited waiting time is being considered along Pensnett Road, Monday to Saturday 9am–5pm, for two hours.

However, Pensnett and Brockmoor ward councillors Judy Foster and Karen Jordan have expressed their disappointment that the parking permit scheme has been disregarded, arguing residents saw this as the only real solution to the problem.

Cllr Judy Foster, said: “It is important that residents respond to the consultation and after considering the options presented by the council, if they still think that a residents parking scheme is the best solution, they they should say so.”

Details of the proposals can be found at Council House, Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge, during normal office hours, and can also be viewed online at dudley.gov.uk/transport-and-streets/local-transport-policy/traffic-consultations and selecting ‘traffic consultation database’.

All written comments should be addressed to the group engineer - traffic and road safety, Council House, Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge, West Midlands, DY8 2AA, no later than March 21.
