DUDLEY Kingswinford cruised past the one thousand points mark with an emphatic win at Nuneaton’s Weddington Road ground.

The Black Country boys have notched up 40 tries in their last three games, including 12 on Saturday.

What really was apparent yesterday was the DK were a very much fitter side than Nuns, a credit to the tremendous commitment of our players and coaches throughout this season.

There were six changes to the DK side that beat Leamington last week, one of them positional. Rich Kelley replaced Al Francis (bruised chest) in the front row, Shaun Griffiths replaced Ed Parry in the second row and Tui Asi-Pito started instead of Pete Knight at outside flanker.

In the backs Simon Fletcher returned at full back after holidaying and Jon Higgins at scrum half after injury with Matt Farrington moving to the right wing.

It was another great team performance with several outstanding contributions.

DK opened the scoring after five minutes when Tui Asi-Pito tore 50 metres up through the middle after fielding a kick ahead. Tui’s break caught Nuns cold and a simple overlap saw Gareth Bown cruise in for the try, the same player then converting for a 7-0 lead.

Nuns rallied strongly and centre Jodie Peacock hit a post with an 11th minute penalty before DK hit the home side with a second try on 14 minutes. Jon Higgins’ long pass found Si Fletcher who exchanged passes with Stef Shillingford and beat two defenders before scoring.

After 19 minutes fine play from Higgins again put Shillingford into space to draw the cover before sending in Matt Farrington for the u/c try to make it 19-0.

At this stage the Nuns pack was being systematically taken apart by DK’s powerful set piece, so it was no surprise when DK gained the bonus point after 26 minutes with their fourth try. Ben Connett took the ball up then a sublime delayed pass from Higgins created a gap for Bown to fly in and score.

DK were hitting Nuns with some great attacking rugby, after 29 minutes Bown made a superb break out of the 22, fed Farrington who in turn found Fletcher to cross close in for his second try. Try nunber six was a beauty as a brilliant lineout take against the throw from Shaun Griffiths set up an exchange between Higgins, Davies and Shillingford for the latter to score. Bown added the extras to make it 38-0.

Nuns pulled back a try on 35 mins with a fine 50 metre individual effort from winger Carl Hutchings but John Tideswell added try number seven before the break to make it 45-7.

It took just three minutes of the second half for DK to add try number eight. Fine combination play from Ollie Shakespeare and Tom Weaver put Farrington away and the winger expertly rounded two defenders in a 30 metre dash to the corner.

While DK were very dominant in the scrums they began to make a few errors in the loose and temporarily lost their first half fizz. The home side put in a concerted effort and were rewarded by a second try from wing Hutchins on 59 minutes.

DK quickly regained the initiative and four minutes later scored try number nine when excellent play from Tideswell saw DK power forward into the Nun’s half and a super break from Gareth Davies to Tom Weaver who sent in Shillingford for his second try.

Matt Farrington notched his hat trick after 67 minutes and on 72 minutes James Parkes, who had com on at prop for Rich Kelley, scored a debut try after being driven over following a five metre scrum.

The final word was left to Davies who sprinted 25 metres for the final try of the game after quick-thinking by Connett.
