DUDLEY Kingswinford RFC sealed the Midlands One West title in style with a 39-0 derby win over Old Halesonians.

Sutton Coldfield’s surprising one point defeat at Bournville has handed the Heathbrook side the title with two matches still to play.

DK did their bit by comfortably overcoming their local rivals Old Halesonians by seven tries to nil in what was their 24th consecutive win of an incredible season and are now two wins away from an amazing 100 per cent record.

Whatever happens now, this has been the most amazing and successful season in DK’s history.

The game was a relatively low key affair, both sides were well below full strength and the play was mediocre for long periods especially in the first half.

OH’s tackled well throughout but offered little threat in attack.

The DK pack had to work very hard to counter the loss of key players but did superbly well under the circumstances. Rich Kelley had another tremendous game up front and was involved in almost everything. Dan Shakespeare had a rare game at tight head and held his own well, whilst Pete Knight must have relieved OH’s of at least half of their overall possession with a master class display at the breakdowns.

The first few minutes were fairly even before visiting full back Chris Hooper was wide with a ninth minute penalty.

DK should have opened the scoring on 12 minutes following a long searching kick from Si Fletcher but Ed Parry was just unable to hold the pass with the line beckoning. The home side upped the tempo and attacked constantly.

James Jefferson was just bundled into touch in the corner after 19 minutes but a minute later a 20 metre rolling maul from the DK pack almost up to the line saw the ball spread quickly to Jak Davis in space and the winger flew in to make it 5-0.

It should have been the first of many as DK constantly broke the OH line only to see the final pass go astray on at least three occasions.

The pressure though had to tell though and after 39 minutes the DK pack again drove upfield, the ball was moved at pace to Stef Shillingford and his astute chip over the OH cover saw James Jefferson take the ball and score to make it 10-0.

Then, in first haf stoppage time, a mix-up in the OH back line saw the ever alert Tom Weaver snatch the ball from under the noses of two OH defenders to dash in at the posts for an excellent individual try. Gareth Bown added the extras to make it 17-0 at the break.

DK tried perhaps a littler too hard to force the pace from the restart and Jon Tideswell got a yellow card on 49 minutes for one too many infringements.

Amazingly it had little effect on a determined DK side whose seven man pack promptly stole a heel against the head and quickly spun the ball out to Bown, whose magical hands produced a superb bit of skill to send in skipper Pete Knight for the bonus point fourth try at the posts on 53 minutes.

Bown converted for DK to lead 24-0. DK then put the win beyond doubt after 59 minutes when Tui Asi-Pito drove over for a fifth home try following a lineout deep inside the OH’s 22 to make it 29-0.

Ollie Shakespeare received a red card for striking an opponent in retaliation after 66 minutes, while OH’s skipper and scrum half Chris Wagstaff was sinbinned after 69 minutes for slowing the ball and so both sides were reduced to 14 men.

The momentum though was very much with the home side and a sixth try duly arrived after 74 minutes when Ed Parry broke from a rolling maul to cross in the corner.

DK’s final score arrived after 79 minutes when another slick DK forward attack saw the ball moved far too quickly for OH’s cover to respond and Simon Fletcher took the pass in his stride to bound over.
