BRIERLEY Hill people are being urged to be on their guard after a spate of burglaries targeting elderly people.
Since February seven incidents have been reported to police in the Hawbush area, in each offence a rear window or door has been forced to gain access to a property.
As nights get lighter and warmer cops are concerned householders will be more likely to leave windows and doors open which could make a tempting target for crooks.
Investigating officer, Dc Paul Hatfield, from Dudley CID, said: “All of these burglaries have taken place some time between 5pm and midnight.
“We urge people in the area to be alert and report any suspicious activity to local police.”
In most incidents nothing was taken, however damage was caused where the burglars had forced their way into the premises.
During a raid on March 9, the offender broke into a house on Cooper Avenue and during a search of the premises took money from the purse of the 79-year-old resident.
Crime prevention advice is available at www.west-midlands.police.uk, anyone with information about any of the burglaries is asked to call Dudley CID on 0345 113 5000 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
