Up to 300 new jobs will be created if plans for a multi-million pound supermarket in the centre of Dudley win the go-ahead.

Landowners Cavendish Quarter Properties have revealed they are in an advanced stage of negotiations with a number of retailers interested in the site, on which the eyesore Cavendish House currently stands.

Artist impressions of the development can be viewed on Saturday (March 24) when the public can have their say at Churchill Shopping Centre.

Cavendish development director Christopher McPherson said: “This development will complement Dudley's existing retail offering and provide more choice for local shoppers. There is strong connectivity from our site to the Churchill Centre, the High Street and the bus station and this development is all about bringing people back into the town.

“It also represents a significant investment by us into Dudley town centre, potentially creating up to 300 new jobs, and bolstering the local economy.

”The viewing gives the local community an opportunity to see our plans in detail and we will welcome feedback.

The company has looked at several options for Cavendish House over several years and is now preparing to submit a planning application to Dudley Council, having signed up to acquire surrounding land to enable the development to take place.

Councillor Angus Adams, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “As a council we are committed to transforming Dudley town centre and recognise that a food retail store would play a key role in delivering this objective.”

Mr McPherson urged residents and business people to view the plans and discuss them with representatives of the developer at the centre between 11am and 4pm.
