PLANS for a new multi-million pound food store in place of an eyesore Dudley Town Centre building have been submitted to council planners.

If given the go-ahead, the supermarket will be built on the former site of Cavendish House in Trindle Road.

Landowners Cavendish Quarter Properties is also in the process of acquiring the surrounding land to enable the development of the yet unknown retailer to take place.

If given the green light, the new venture will generate around 300 jobs in the town.

Cavendish Quarter Properties' development director, Christopher McPherson, said: “We are delighted to announce today that we have submitted a planning application for a major new food store within Dudley Town Centre, in line with our initial announcement at Christmas.

John Millar, director of urban environment, said: "This application is the culmination of a lot of detailed work and shows a continuing and developing confidence in Dudley Town Centre. The application will now go through the normal planning process."

Plans have already been given the thumbs up from shoppers following a public consultation event in March with more than 100 written responses received in support of the scheme.
