TWO SEDGLEY men have been jailed after a cannabis factory was uncovered in Wombourne.

Appearing at Stafford Crown Court, Simon Evason, aged 33, of Bath Street, was jailed for 32 months while Gary Wilson, aged 31, of Fir Street, was given a three-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to conspiracy to produce cannabis.

The court heard how around 100 cannabis plants – with a street value of almost £60,000 - were found when officers from Staffordshire Police raided a factory unit on Heathmill Enterprise Park in Heath Mill Road in October 2009.

The factory was discovered following a tip-off from members of the public following concerns of suspicious smells coming from the unit.

Inspector Donna Gibbs, South Staffordshire Local Policing Team Commander, said: “We are committed to tackling drug supply in South Staffordshire and the rest of the county.

”Members of the public can be re-assured that if they contact us with information about drug supply we will act promptly.

“These sentences send a clear message to people are thinking of producing or dealing drugs in Staffordshire: they will be caught and brought to justice.”
