DUDLEY Kingswinford kicked off the season with an emphatic 64-5 friendly win over Syston.

The hosts dominated from start to finish as they won each of the game's four 20 minute sessions, putting ten tries on the board to their Division Three North opponents’ one.

A number of new signings were blooded but DK still played with their trademark fast, open style. Joe Carpenter was in the thick of the action all day and looks a brilliant addition. Although Syston's forwards gave DK a physical battle, their backs were outclassed in a comprehensive win for the home side.

It was the DK coaches, Jon Higgins and Pete Knight who opened the scoring. Higgins got the first after a superb flowing move left Syston’s cover in tatters. He stepped up to add the conversion to give his side a seven-point lead after just two minutes.

In firm control, DK grabbed their second 15 minutes later. Impressive support play overwhelmed the Syston defence, allowing Knight to score. Higgins added the conversion.

DK started the second session as quickly as they had the first. Nick Adams was released down the right touchline and after wriggling free of a tackle, strode 40 metres to the posts.

The try of the game was scored on the half-hour mark when Rod Williams showed excellent hands to set up a blistering passing move, capped by new signing Rhys Pritchard crashing over to make it 26-0.

Three minutes later Adams' clever inside pass found Stefan Shillingford , who powered home from 40 metres. Higgins added the conversion to stretch the lead to 33 at the half.

Shillingford scored his second and DK's sixth try early in the third session and though Syston came back strong with a series of attacks but were unable to breach the home side's resolute back line.

When DK went back on the offensive they again increased the lead. Higgins' inch-perfect pass to Matt Farrington saw the winger touch down in the corner. The tough conversion was made by the impressive Higgins and his side found themselves up by 47. Syston were under the cosh and Adam Greaves compounded their misery by adding DK’s eighth at the end of the third session.

Syston finally got on the board in the fourth quarter, driving over seven minutes from time. The respite was short-lived however. Hooker Luke Greenwood scored a minute later and Farrington added a tenth try as DK ended with a flourish. Duncan Tompkins converted.
