HAGLEY villagers have celebrated the long-awaited return of a permanent Post Office which has now been opened within the new Co-p food store.

The new store in Worcester Road was officially opened last Thursday (November 9) after an investment of nearly £550,000.

A total of 14 new jobs have been created and Post Office services are now available from 6am to 10pm within the shop which also boasts an in-store bakery and Costa Coffee to go facility.

Steve Colella, chairman of Hagley Parish Council, said: "It's a great relief that the Post Office has come back and has a presence within the new Co-op. It's been warmly welcomed by residents who have missed the permanent Post Office for almost a year."

He added: "We need to spare a thought for the Post Office staff who were made redundant under the previous scheme but I'd like to thank the Co-op and Post Office for maintaining the service in Hagley."

Store manager Ben Wakefield said: “We are delighted to have undertaken such a significant investment in Hagley, and excited to have the opportunity to serve the community – we have received great feedback.

“The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum. Our ambition is to ensure the store is a local hub, a real asset for the community."

Post Office services had been provided temporarily in the village through mobile van situated on the car park of The Station Inn each Wednesday and Friday since West Hagley Post Office closed its doors in November 2016.
