AN official launch is to be held this Wednesday (February 13) for a new Stourbridge patisserie.

Surantha Patisserie opened its doors to customers yesterday (Monday) ahead of the official launch, which is expected to be attended by the Mayor of Dudley and business leaders, on Wednesday night.

Friends Surantha Rupasingha from Stourbridge and Catherine Ramchandani from Hagley are behind the new venture which has opened in the High Street unit previously occupied by takeaway outlet Taste which has since moved to Bell Street.

Catherine said: “We are offering macaroons, designer cakes, patisserie items as well as croissants and artistic breads, crepes and waffles.

“We have got a window so people enjoying a cup of coffee can see the chef baking and designing the cake and pastries.

“We cook everything on site apart from our gelato ice creams.”

Artistic pastry chef Surantha has recently returned from the Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg where he won a gold medal for his elaborate sculptures created out of salt dough, sugar and chocolate.
