A PENSNETT singer will be taking to the stage next month in the semi-finals for Miss England 2019.

Charlie Jones, aged 25, is hoping to wow the judges at her heat of the semi final in Burnley on June 16.

The 25-year-old is no stranger to taking to the stage- she worked as a red coat in Butlins for years and currently tours the country as part of a celebration of hit girl group Little Mix.

The former Kingswinford School pupil said she couldn't believe it when she found out she had won a place in the semi-final, where she will battle it out for a place in the coveted final.

She said: "I got a phone call when I was out and about with a friend offering me a place in the semi-final. I thought it was a scam."

A key part of the competition is fundraising for good causes to raise awareness of issues and Charlie has chosen a range of causes that mean a lot to her.

As part of her campaign she will fundraise for Breast Cancer Awareness, in honour of her mum who had the disease, and mental health charity Papyrus which supports young people with suicidal thoughts.

She is also supporting animal sanctuaries and the Ronald McDonald centre in Bristol which supports families with ill children.

Explaining her choices, Charlie said: "I wanted to pick things that meant something to me."

"I was really nervous at first as I have never done anything like it al all but it is a great opportunity."

Members of the public can also vote for Charlie to make it through to the final, via her Facebook page 'Charlie Jones Miss England Semi Finalist 2019' or by texting MISSNORTH07 to 63333.
