A MAN has pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding a police officer who was dragged along the ground by his BMW car in an incident in Rood End, Oldbury.

Two officers had spotted the car which appeared to have been speeding and when they made a check they discovered it was insured in the name of a woman.

Lawrence Parchment-Walker - a man of previous good character - was behind the wheel of the vehicle and he was asked to provide his driving licence.

The 22-year-old said it was in the BMW and when he got back into the vehicle he tried to drive away from the scene in Barker Street.

One of the officers tried to prevent him from leaving but he was knocked down by the vehicle while the second officer was dragged for 25 metres by the car before he was forced to give up.

Parchment-Walker of St Pauls Road, Smethwick admitted charges involving wounding, dangerous driving and having no insurance when he appeared before Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Judge Rhona Campbell QC remanded him on bail until October 2 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

She ruled Parchment-Walker should be disqualified from driving immediately.
