RESIDENTS are urged to do their bit for the environment by recycling their Christmas waste.

The seasonal festivities may be over but there’s still time for people to recycle items leftover from Christmas and New Year celebrations along with the usual everyday items.

Plastic bottles, tin cans, aerosols, clean foil from chocolate Santas and coins or chocolate and biscuit tins can be recycled by using the green bag.

People are asked to rinse things before placing them in the bags.

In the blue bag, people can recycle leftover wrapping paper (as long as it is not plastic backed or glittery), cardboard boxes and Christmas cards (without glitter).

Residents are asked not to put recycling in plastic bags as it contaminates it; instead people should place it loose in the recycling bag.

People can recycle glass bottles, aftershave and perfume bottles, glass pots and jars and drinking glasses in the glass box.

Residents can also take their Christmas trees to the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Birmingham Street, Stourbridge, for recycling. Wrapping paper, however, is not accepted.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, Dudley's cabinet member for environmental, highways and street services, said: "Through the Dudley Deal, we have pledged to work with local communities to create a cleaner and greener borough.

"To help us on our journey to improving our local environment, we’re asking residents to do their bit in 2020 and recycling waste from the festive season is a great way to start."
