WALKERS across the borough are invited to take part in the 38th annual Dudley Trail which promises to be the biggest and best yet.

The event, which attracts more than 2,000 people every year, will take place on Sunday May 6 – starting and finishing from Dudley Leisure Centre.

Walks of six, nine, 12, 20 and 28 miles are on offer and will take walkers around the borough’s hidden beauty spots and heritage sites.

This year will also see the introduction of a photo competition for under 14s and adults with a chance to win tickets to Himley bonfire.

Councillor Dave Tyler, Mayor of Dudley, said: “The Dudley Trail is a popular event every year and people of all ages take part as individuals, groups or families and there is a great atmosphere on the day.

“Walking is one of the best ways to stay fit and active and I am sure people will turn out again this year to take up the challenge of one of the five distances on offer. This year people can book easier than ever by registering in advance online.”

Participants can walk at their own pace and will take in the sights of canal towpaths, disused railway lines, country footpaths and a few roads as part of the walks which start at designated times from 8am to noon.

People can walk to raise money for a charity of their choice and there will be a chance to donate to the Mayor of Dudley’s charities on the day.

Everyone who completes a trail will receive a certificate of achievement.

Checkpoints will be sited along each of the five routes to ensure the well-being and whereabouts of walkers and light refreshments will be available.

Online fees are £4 per person to join the 28 and 20-mile routes, £3 for the 12 and nine-mile routes and £2.50 to walk the gentler six-mile route.

Costs will be an extra £1 for each route if booked on the day.
